Truckee, California lies 30 miles southwest of Reno, Nevada. The first European travelers to reach the Sierra Nevada's encountered a welcoming Paiute chief who rode on horseback towards them yelling, "Tro-kay!", which is Paiute for "Everything is all right." Confused, the travelers thought he was yelling his name, and labeled the town Truckee in his honor.
